“Walking in Yenişehir with Sevgi Soysal” Memory Walk

On Sunday, May 25th at 14:00, a memory walk called “Walking with Sevgi Soysal in Yenişehir” will be held in Ankara by the Aramızda the Association of Gender Research. The event, which will be organized by Funda Şenol, offers the opportunity to look at Turkey’s recent history while following the traces of Sevgi Soysal’s life.

“Sevgi Soysal spent her short life in Ankara and is one of the first female writers to have written about Ankara. As the child of a middle-class intellectual family, she was a free-spirited woman who was found strange even in the literary and artistic circles of the period. We often see characters similar to her in her works. Sometimes she is a curious child, sometimes a challenging young woman.

While exploring the city on foot, during her imprisonment and exile, while working as a journalist and writing her works, she listened to people from other classes and cultures and their troubles, and developed her political consciousness in this way. The reason she is still remembered and read is because of her works that witnessed the social transformation of Turkey and her powerful pen. In this walk, you will take your way to the places where Soysal lived, worked, wrote and loved from her childhood until her death, and while remembering her, you will also take a look at recent history.”
