Open Your Heart’s Eye: Mine Söğüt – Beş Sevim Apartmanı – Rüya Tabirli Cinperi Yalanları (2003)

I leave you with my review of Mine Söğüt’s first book “Beş Sevim Apartmanı – Rüya Tabirli Cinperi Yalanları”.

Although the book is the first novel of Söğüt, one of the new talents of Turkish literature, I can say that she has written a very impressive story. His observations, his examination of the subject, his sentences and the author’s narration as if establishing a direct dialogue with the reader deeply impressed me…

The title of the book may not be interesting at first glance. However, the story of the title of the book is interesting enough to be a book in itself. The subject is also very interesting. The book starts with a story that begins with loving a person. As Albert Camus said, “One must find love before morality, otherwise they both disappear.”

Psychiatrist Dr Samimi, a child who is not loved, abandoned by his mother and living with his aunt, suddenly starts to have haunted dreams. These dreams, which are fun at first, start to affect his life over time. Samimi wants to get rid of the haunted dreams and for this purpose, he places five patients suffering from the same problem in the “Five Sevim Apartment”. The common characteristic of the patients is that they are sick on the basis of lack of love, loneliness, abandonment and family problems. Each patient has a different story. The book is not a haunted book, in fact, it tells about the wounds, troubles, loneliness, inaccuracies, lies and lovelessness of our society.

In the book, each character described by the author’s pen has a very important place in terms of making the reader question his own life and deepen his thoughts. Each character has a different story, a different pain, a different philosophy of life. The author’s detailed description of each character makes it easier for the reader to have an idea about the characters.

The language of the book is quite fluent and simple. By using a simple language, Söğüt makes it easy for the reader to find himself in the story. The book also draws attention to many problems of Turkish society. Concepts such as loneliness, lack of love and abandonment are among the problems our society faces. However, the author addresses these problems not only by criticising them but also by offering solutions.

In conclusion, I strongly recommend you to read “Beş Sevim Apartmanı”. Mine Söğüt has made an important contribution to Turkish literature with her first novel. The book draws the reader into a gripping story with its narration, plot and characters. It also draws attention to many problems of our society, causing the reader to think and question. “Beş Sevim Apartmanı” is the work of a writer with a bright future in Turkish literature, a must-read book.

I leave a quote, enjoyable reading…

“Seeing a diary in a dream indicates that you will read a good book. Although the diary is not seen in the dream, reading “Beş Sevim Apartmanı” is a good sign. The eyes of the heart of the one who reads it are opened, fairy girls enter his dream.”
