2024 ALMA Candidates Announced: 3 Institutions from Turkey on the Candidate List

A total of 245 nominations from 68 different countries were submitted for the 2024 ALMA Awards. The winner will be announced on 9 April 2024 at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

ALMA (Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award) is an award given annually by the Swedish Arts Council in memory of the famous writer Astrid Lindgren. The award is described as an honour for people with imagination, courage, respect, empathy and an understanding of art that transcends borders. The winner of the ALMA is awarded a cash prize of SEK 5,000,000 ($513,000), which is an indication of the importance Sweden attaches to children’s literature.

The ALMA Award can be awarded to authors and illustrators of children’s books as well as to organisations. Organisations that have made outstanding efforts to promote children’s literature in their country can also be nominated for this award. Among the 2024 nominees from Turkey, there are three institutions that have made significant efforts in the field of children’s literature.

These organisations are as follows:

  • Bütün Çocuklar Bizim Derneği
  • Ege Çağdaş Eğitim Vakfı (EÇEV)
  • OKUYAY

We wish them success as oiktoz team.
