Francophonie Concert: “Ear to Ear” Meets the Audience

Saturday, March 9, 2024 – 19:00 at the Notre-Dame de Sion French High School Performance Hall is a concert in which music and texts are presented alternately. Texts are in French. Turkish translations will be shown as superscripts.

Jean-Baptiste HARDY, Guitarist:

Born in 1989, Hardy started playing classical guitar at the age of eight. His childhood was nourished by the repertoire of Fingerstyle, Chet Atkins, Marcel Dadi and Jerry Reed. Between 2000 and 2010, he enriched and diversified his repertoire with jazz, gospel and world music. During this period, he formed the JB&CO Band, which regularly performed in Paris.

In 2012, he moved to Istanbul. He joined the École de Musique Francophone and performed at the city’s “Jazz” venue for about four years. Here she works with many musicians such as Flapper Swing, Bilal Karaman, Uninvited jazz band, Ebru Dengiz, Ajda Ahu Giray. In 2014, she recorded her first composition album “ON VERRA” as a trio with Ekin Bilgin and Riccardo Marenghi.

At the end of 2015, he returned to France and performed at famous venues in Paris such as “Sunset”, “Sunside” or “Baiser Salé”. In 2018, he composed his second album “REPRISE” as a trio with Rory Quinn on drums and Benjamin Asnar on bass, featuring “blues”, “funk”, “fusion” and Latin music. In the same year, he recorded “NOUVEAU DEPART”, an album of solo compositions with classical influences and a touch of fingerpicking.

Mouloud ADEL, Oud and Mandolinist:

Born in Algeria in 1966, he grew up in Cherchell, a town known for its Arab-Andalusian musical tradition. He started his education at the age of ten on his favorite instrument, the mandolin. He also learned to play the lute, violin, lute and darbuka. His training lasted eight years under the tutelage of his master, Sheikh Smaïl Hakem. He participates in many cultural events, including the Tilimsan Traditional Music Festival and the Malouf de Constantine International Festival in the 1980s.

In 1984 he moves to France to complete his studies while enriching his musical practice. In 1991, he founded the EL ANDALOUSSIA Association in Nancy and devoted himself to teaching Arab-Andalusian music. He regularly performs with the bands EL ANDALOUSSIA and TARAB to make this style of music known throughout France. In 2001, he records his first album. In 2003, he founded the ensemble PARFUM D’AL ANDALUS as part of the Mediterranean Festival of Sacred Song.

In 2008, he initiated the creation of the MEZDJ Group, which brings together Corsican, North African and Occitan musicians. In this context, he initiates a study of sacred and secular songs from the Mediterranean.

Mouloud ADEL is a university professor and international technical expert at Galatasaray University.

Roger LORD, pianist:

Born in Canada, Roger Lord studied at various universities in his home country (Moncton, McGill, Montreal) and also in Paris. He holds a doctorate in music from the University of Montreal. He is on the juries of prestigious national and international piano competitions in Canada, the USA, Malaysia and Australia. He has performed as soloist with symphony orchestras in Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. At the 8th International La Francophonie Summit in 1999, Roger Lord gave a recital to the heads of state of fifty-two countries. In 2004, Louis Moreau initiated a recording dedicated to Gottschalk, which became a multi-award-winning production.

Roger Lord, nicknamed “The Canadian Piano Prince” by China Daily, has played at prestigious events such as the “Gateway to Music” Festival in Beijing or the Chinese New Year Gala, which resonated with hundreds of millions of television viewers. In the fall of 2013, he became the “first non-Chinese pianist” in the world to record a disc of Chinese piano music: “TREASURES OF CHINA” with Canadian assistant director Jeremy VanSlyke and Chinese director Shen Yuanzhi.

In addition to his international career, Roger Lord is a professor in the Department of Music at the University of Moncton.

Hélène Köroglu, Actress:

In 2012, having just graduated from the Jacques Thibaud Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Bordeaux, inspired by the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq, she chose to study physical theater in England, where she attended the LISPA International School.

In 2015, he founded the Knospi Theater, whose productions combining music and theater have been performed in France and Turkey (The Fairy Queen 2015, Pyrame et Thisbé 2017, Pierre et le Loup 2019).

After touring Turkey, in 2023, he performed “Délire à deux…à tant qu’on peut” (Double Ecstasy as much as possible) at the Avignon Off Festival, produced by theatrINO Company, of which he is a founding partner.

Since 2011, the artist has appeared in short films, commercials (Intel, Akbank, Disney) and music videos (Revival prod). Since September 2016, he has been teaching theater at Notre-Dame de Sion French High School, where he coordinates the international Francophone School Theater Festival.

Virgile Mangiavillano, Actor:

Virgile has been a theater actor since 2000, performing all over the world (China, South Korea, Turkey and France) and especially at the Avignon Festival.

Since 2016 he has been acting in Turkish cinema, platforms and television. He is involved in numerous national and international Netflix projects such as the Turkish adaptation of ‘Dix Pour Cent’ (Ten Percent) or the most popular Turkish comedy ‘Gibi’. He has played roles in French, English, German, Turkish and Italian under the direction of the biggest Turkish directors, notably Ridley Scott.

In fact, Virgile is fluent in many languages such as French, English, Turkish, German, Spanish, Chinese and Italian.

He is also the director of a cinema and digital visual art company specialized in virtual reality, in collaboration with international film festivals (Cannes, Venice, Tribeca, etc.).

oiktoz; is a culture and art initiative that sets out with the motto of plenty of culture and plenty of art. It is a living and developing community with a website, an art club, a magazine, a newsletter and many oiktoz people already in it. It is an organisation that is happy to be interested in culture and art and tells the stories of people who produce in this field in order for this happiness to continue.
