The Workshop on Embroidering Memory is a photography embroidery workshop that aims to connect the past and the present through embroidery interventions on daily life, places and people in old photographs. In this workshop, participants listen not only to the images but also to the emotions, memories and questions evoked by these images. Embroidery does not only leave a mark; sometimes it embroiders silence, sometimes it completes a missing touch.
In the workshop, an environment is created where participants can examine and talk about their personal histories and the memories and photographs they give meaning to in the context of gender equality. The traces left in the memory by these memories are shared and reshaped with thread and needle. Photographs are not only a memory, but also a carrier of the repressed, the unseen or the unheard. Here, embroidery stands out as both a narrative form and a healing and transformative action. With each stitch, new paths are opened between the personal and the social, the past and the present.
Those who are considering attending the workshop are asked to make a small preparation before coming:
Choose a photo that identifies with the theme of “Being a Woman”,
Get a black and white print of this photo on A5 size, 350 grams matt coated paper and bring it to the workshop,
Think about the story of the photo; this story will be shared and the photo will be worked on during the event.
Participants are invited to this meeting where threads will speak as much as words, motifs as much as sentences, and where the stories chosen together will be processed.
The workshop is free of charge and is open only to university students between the ages of 19-25. The number of participants is limited.
Date: Saturday, June 7, 2025, 12:00–14:00
