Sait Faik to be Commemorated in Burgazada on His 71st Death Anniversary

Sait Faik Abasıyanık to Be Commemorated on the 71st Anniversary of His Death in Burgazada. An event commemorating the 71st anniversary of the death of renowned Turkish writer Sait Faik Abasıyanık will be held in Burgazada on May 25 at 1:00 PM. The program is organized by the Friends of the Island Association (Ada Dostları Derneği), the Writers’ Union of Turkey (Türkiye Yazarlar Sendikası), the Darüşşafaka Society, the Burgazada Culture and Development Association, and the Sait Faik Abasıyanık Museum.

This year’s guest of honor will be writer Mehmet Zaman Saçlıoğlu, and speeches will be delivered by İbrahim Aycan, President of the Friends of the Island Association; Adnan Özyalçıner, President of the Writers’ Union of Turkey; Mustafa Biçer, Burgazada’s local administrator (muhtar); and Hıdır Uvaçin, former Deputy Mayor of the Adalar Municipality.

Following a visit to the Sait Faik Abasıyanık Museum, the event will continue with various activities held in the garden of the Burgazada Culture and Development Association, located in Aya Nikola.

As part of the program, Theatre Simurg, directed by Mehmet Esatoğlu, will take the stage with its play “Burgazadalı Sait Faik” (“Sait Faik of Burgazada”), marking the troupe’s 27th year, and bringing the spirit of Sait Faik to life around the island’s table of friends.
