The true life story of a woman with autism. In this respect, it would not be right to categorize the movie only in the drama category, the movie is a very remarkable work in the biography genre.
Released in 2010 under the direction of Mick Jackson, the movie was highly appreciated by the audience, received a lot of applause and brought many tears. Maybe you have watched a lot of things about autism, read countless articles; but I don’t know if there is another work that explains this awareness so deeply and makes you empathize. You don’t get lost in the depths of empathy, you find new ways. For example, you understand how to understand, how not to look down, how we are beautiful with differences. You see that people who are not accepted as normal by society are the most normal members of society. Above all, you see that love is good for everything.
The movie starts when Temple, the main character of the movie, an individual with autism, is 4 years old and his mother observes that he behaves differently from his peers. Concerned by this difference, the mother takes her child to the doctor and learns the reason for the difference. Temple is an individual with autism. The doctor says that Temple should not be in normal social life and should be treated in a clinic. The mother refuses to accept this situation. She declares that she will not allow her child to be wasted, to be destroyed by herself and that she will take full responsibility. And there she is, the great mother!
The only person who makes us read, listen and watch Temple’s story is his mother. It is her mother’s rebellion against no. First she educates herself and then she educates her child. When Temple reaches school age, everything is ready for him to go to school.
While a child who goes to school is exposed to a lot of bullying even when he is “normal”, Temple’s experiences are horrible. She is so marginalized that you can hear her screaming I’m different from you in her eyes. In this situation, her savior is her teacher. We witness how everything changes with the touch and faith of a teacher.
The film is the real life story of Prof. Dr. Temple Grandin. It is perhaps the first movie that comes to mind when it comes to autism. Another feature of this movie is that it is a beacon of hope. I think it is the only movie that creates autism awareness. Thanks to this awareness, many individuals with autism have not been cut off from society. Autism is not mental retardation, he emphasized.
