IFSAK 30th Short Film Festival, Bringing Short Films to the Audience, Begins
IFSAK Short Film Festival, which will be held for the 30th time this year, will take place between March 11-17, 2024 at the French Cultural Center and IFSAK halls. The festival, which will consist of two main sections, National and International, will include interviews and a Masterclass. “IFSAK Cinema Labor Award” will also be presented at the festival.
Ethem ÖZGÜVEN, Zeynep ÜNAL and Ziya DEMİREL, who are important names in their fields, will evaluate the films that have passed the preliminary selection of IFSAK 44th Short Film and Documentary Competition and select the films that are entitled to receive an award.
The National section of the festival consists of 42 films that passed the preliminary selection in the 44th IFSAK Short Film and Documentary Competition. A total of 312 films participating in the Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Fiction categories were evaluated by the pre-jury consisting of academician, director Bahar KILIÇ ADİLÇE, director Deniz TORTUM and IFSAK Cinema Unit member Gönül GÖZEN. The 42 films that passed the pre-selection will be evaluated by the competition selection committee consisting of director, film writer and academician Ethem ÖZGÜVEN, producer, writer and director Zeynep ÜNAL and director Ziya DEMİREL, and the best films in their branches will be determined.
The results of the competition will be announced at the award ceremony to be held at the French Cultural Center on Saturday, March 16th.
Ninety-nine short films from thirty-four countries will add color to the festival.
In the international section, the Austrian Cultural Office, Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Istanbul, Danish Cultural Institute, French Cultural Center Istanbul, Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Istanbul, Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Istanbul and Indie Busan Film Association, Liszt Institute Hungarian Cultural Center and 2024 Hungarian-Turkish Year of Culture, Dimitrie Cantemir Romanian Cultural Center Istanbul, Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul, Consulate General of Greece in Istanbul and Filmfreeway, With the personal contributions of Vicki Topaz, Deniz Şimşek and Veneta Vandrova, the festival program will feature films from thirty-four countries including the USA, Germany, Albania, Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Armenia, Ethiopia, Morocco, France, Georgia, Croatia, the Netherlands, Iran, Iran, Iran, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Congo, Korea, Kosovo, Cuba, Lebanon, Hungary, Nepal, Pakistan, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Tunisia, Vietnam and Greece. After a long marathon of watching films, the festival organizing committee has included a total of 99 short films that will premiere in Turkey for the first time, as well as films that have attracted attention in various festivals around the world.
The festival will include talks on various topics.
At the 30th IFSAK Short Film Festival, in addition to Short to Long with the participation of director Nehir TUNA and In Memory of Sungu Çapan, who made great contributions to cinema with his writings and passed away on April 1, 2023, two directors from the Netherlands and Romania will answer the questions of the audience after their films. The festival will also feature a masterclass by Rıza KIRAÇ on screenwriting in cinema.
Short filmmakers will meet with the audience at the festival.
For the last six years, IFSAK Short Film Festival has been organizing the In Memoriam section dedicated to filmmakers who have made valuable contributions to cinema and are no longer with us. This year, the In Memoriam section will commemorate Sungu Çapan, “a seminal film writer with his in-depth perspective, layered and nuanced style”.
Nehir Tuna will be the guest of this year’s Short to Long section, which hosts directors who have brought Turkish cinema to world festivals by coming to the forefront with their feature films after their short films. The director will take part in the festival with a talk and share her short and feature film experiences with the audience.
IFSAK Cinema Labor Award will be presented.
This year’s recipient of the ‘IFSAK Cinema Labor Award’, which is given every year to those who have made significant contributions to the cinema industry, will be Çetin TUNCA, who started his career as a cinematographer in 1967, has worked as a cinematographer in more than 120 films, including unforgettable films such as Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım, Hayallerim Aşkım and You, and has twice won the Golden Orange for Best Cinematography. Tunca will be presented with his award at the award ceremony on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the French Cultural Center.
